History:

The Lookout Mountain Nature Center & Preserve is home of the Lorraine Lodge—now called Boettcher Mansion. The lodge was built in 1917 by Charles Boettcher as a summer home. In 1968, Jefferson County acquired the 110 acre property and the lodge by donation from Charline Breeden, granddaughter of Charles Boettcher. Boettcher Mansion, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, has undergone some restoration and now hosts special events.
