Organization:  South Metro Land Conservancy (SMLC)

The South Metro Land Conservancy is a group of concerned citizens dedicated to the preservation of natural areas in the southern metropolitan area that have recreational as well as ecological value.  SMLC believes that preserving our natural heritage and our quality of life within the urban landscape, as well as in remote areas, can go hand in hand with responsible development.

What SMLC does:

SMLC holds land in perpetual trust.

Encourages the protection of natural resources.

Promotes thoughtful, carefully planned development.

Accepts conservation easements.

How SMLC Works:

SMLC works in quiet ways, preferring cooperation to confrontation.

SMLC assists landowners and developers by advising them on innovative ways to provide long range protection for land.

SMLC also works with developers to encourage environmental protection on project sites.

SMLC works with local government to encourage sensitive land planning.

SMLC helps people increase their environmental awareness through educational programs.
