Mountain Area Land Trust (MALT)
MALT,
an Evergreen, CO-based non-profit organization, assists landowners and residents
of the foothills' communities of Jefferson, Clear Creek and Park Counties in a
cooperative and non-adversarial fashion to facilitate win-win land preservation,
using conservation easements, partnerships and other legal techniques.
MALT
crafts cooperative, constructive land protection solutions to preserve open
lands and vistas in perpetuity. It's
goal is the preservation of at least 20,000 of the 50,000 acres of prime
undeveloped land with 25 miles of the town of Evergreen to keep the open,
natural character of our mountain communities and the environmental integrity of
the area's ecosystems.
Noble Meadow (1994): MALT
spearheaded successful effort to save the 408 acre tract from residential
development. The cooperative project involved the developer the community,
MALT, the Evergreen Park and Recreation District and Jefferson County Open
Space.
Beaver Brook Watershed: Since
1997 MALT has been facilitating the US Forest Service purchase of the watershed.
Working with Clear Creek County, the City of Golden, citizen groups, the
US Forest Service and the Colorado congressional delegation, MALT has helped
negotiate a phased federal purchase of the watershed.
MALT
helps landowners develop conservation plans that fit their needs.
Conservation easements are the land trust's best tool for preserving
large acreages.
MALT
educates landowners and the public about land preservation options.
Maintenance of a paper inventory of large land parcels and natural
resources in the mountain area and a library of information for landowners.
Outreach via letter campaigns, newsletters, one-on-one meetings with
landowners, speaking engagements with civic groups and special events.
