THE KEN-CARYL RANCH FOUNDATION

The Ken-Caryl Ranch Foundation was formed on September 12, 1990 to:

Provide a higher quality of life for the residents of Ken-Caryl Ranch;

Create an ongoing source of revenue and resources to Ken-Caryl Ranch for the benefit of its residents by establishing cultural, recreational and educational opportunities;

Establish a funding source for the payment of debt related to open space acquisition;

Contribute to the ongoing improvements of facilities for handicapped and disabled residents; and

Establish cultural and educational programs for Ranch residents.

On April 15, 1991, the Foundation was granted 501(c)(3) status as a non-profit organization, thereby qualifying for Scientific and Cultural Facilities District and other grant funds.

In May 20, 1992, the Foundation was informed that the Manville Corporation was divesting itself of several hundred acres of undeveloped open space land known as the South Dakota Hogback.  The Foundation, with the support of the Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District and Master Association, took advantage of its 501(c)(3) tax status to raise money to purchase the 876-acre parcel to ensure that it remained open space in perpetuity. The final payment was made in July 1999.

Over the last decade, the Ken-Caryl Ranch Foundation has contributed enormously to the Ken-Caryl Ranch community by:

Installing curb cuts and other /handicap access improvements;

Awarding 15 academic scholarships totaling $13,000;

Instituting the Memorial Tree program;

Selling and planting trees, shrubs and plants for Pride Day;

Underwriting open space trail maintenance for the Hogback and other open space areas;

Authorizing an agreement with the Colorado Department of Natural Resources designating the South Dakota Hogback as a State Natural Area

Supporting the Ken-Caryl Ranch Historical Society Committee (preservation of the Bradford-Perley House)

The Foundation will continue its long-time support of Ken-Caryl Ranch historical, cultural and natural assets.  The Foundation has already awarded a grant to the Ken-Caryl Ranch Historical Society Committee for an engineering study for stabilization of the foundation and drainage improvements to the Bradford-Perley House. Additional grant funds are expected to be awarded in response to future requests.
