Who is ELCC:
ELCC is a private, nonprofit organization whose purpose is to preserve and protect selected open space parcels of land for broad community public use and enjoyment in the Evergreen Area. While the Mountain Area Land Trust (MALT) is focused on the preservation of larger tracts to remain as open space, ELCC focuses on smaller close-in parcels or in-fill sites within Evergreen.
What is our Purpose?
In 1999 ELCC was formed by a small group of concerned local individuals with the primary purpose of protecting an eleven-acre parcel centrally located in Evergreen. As an outgrowth of promoting community-friendly uses for the eleven acres, ELCC created the vision for a 67-acre active use park in which the eleven acres would become the cornerstone.
The vision was promoted by ELCC and attracted support from organizations such as Trust for Public Land and the Evergreen Park and Recreation District. Ultimately the Recreation District asked the public to pass a $3.5 million bond issue for the acquisition of the eleven acres along with the remaining private parcels.
ELCC was instrumental in raising over $125,000 of private donations from the community. ELCC’s primary role was to: educate the public on the project, determine the communities recreational needs, survey over 14,000 residents, hire a land planner and direct a seventeen-person steering committee charged with drafting the master plan for the park.
Visions for the future:
ELCC perceives a real need in the Evergreen area for an organization such as itself, advising and assisting other concerned citizens with projects similar to the one described above. We believe that our Board represents a diverse group of talent and expertise that would allow a citizen based organization a head start on their project, by taking advantage of our Board’s knowledge and experience. Currently ELCC is working with a group in hopes of preserving an additional eleven acres along the highway 74 corridor.
